81-Year-Old Woman Killed in Suspected DUI Crash in West Las Vegas Valley

Accident – Death – Obituary News : LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Tragedy struck on Saturday afternoon in the west Las Vegas Valley as an 81-year-old woman lost her life in a suspected DUI crash. The incident took place at the intersection of West Charleston Boulevard and South Merialdo Lane, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

Eyewitness accounts and evidence collected at the scene revealed that a Toyota Corolla was heading eastbound on Charleston Boulevard, approaching Merialdo Lane. The vehicle was in the left turn lane (L1), which had a flashing yellow turn arrow. Meanwhile, an Acura TLX was traveling westbound on Charleston Boulevard, reportedly at a high rate of speed, in the left travel lane of three (T1).

Tragically, the Toyota entered the Acura’s path of travel, resulting in a collision. The impact was severe, causing significant damage to both vehicles. First responders arrived promptly and initiated life-saving measures on the Toyota’s passenger, who was identified as an 81-year-old woman. Despite their efforts, the woman succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Toyota, an 80-year-old man, also sustained injuries and was rushed to UMC Trauma for medical attention. Meanwhile, the 35-year-old driver of the Acura, identified as Fahid Amid, displayed signs of impairment. Consequently, Amid was arrested for DUI-related charges, holding him responsible for the tragic incident.

Regrettably, this fatal crash marks the 131st traffic-related fatality within the LVMPD’s jurisdiction in 2023. The complete identity of the deceased woman will be released by the Clark County Coroner’s office following necessary procedures.
