Tragic Incident Claims the Life of a 4-Year-Old Girl During Deepavali Celebrations in Ranipet

4-year-old dies of burn injuries sustained while bursting crackers in Ranipet; Chennai sees 581 cases of violations on Deepavali

On the night of Deepavali, a 4-year-old girl named Navishka tragically lost her life in the Ranipet district of Tamil Nadu.

According to witnesses, Navishka sustained critical burn injuries during the festive celebrations in Mambakkam area, Ranipet, on November 12. The young girl was bursting firecrackers with other children in the neighborhood when a series of firecrackers accidentally fell on her, engulfing her in flames. The fire spread to her clothes, causing severe burns throughout her body. She was promptly rushed to a nearby hospital, but unfortunately, Navishka succumbed to her injuries shortly after admission.

Doctors revealed that the burst of a firecracker had caused fatal injuries to Navishka’s chest and abdomen.

In a separate incident, the Chennai city Police recorded a staggering 581 cases of individuals violating the Supreme Court’s specified time frame for bursting firecrackers.

As per the rules imposed by the Tamil Nadu government, firecrackers were only permitted to be burst between 6 am to 7 am and from 7 pm to 8 pm. Out of the 581 cases, 554 were related to the illegal bursting of firecrackers beyond the permitted time. Additionally, eight firecracker shopkeepers were also booked for operating their shops in violation of the government’s regulations, and 19 individuals faced charges for causing excessive noise pollution due to firecrackers.

The state fire department reported a total of 148 fire incidents in Chennai on Deepavali. Fire outbreaks occurred at various locations, including a godown in Vannarappettai, a shop in Periyamedu, a house in Kolathur residential area, and the Mylapore Saibaba Temple. Fortunately, there were no major damages or injuries reported, thanks to the swift response of the firefighters who promptly arrived at the scenes and successfully extinguished the fires.
