BENGALURU: A tragic incident occurred on Sunday evening at a popular ‘dhaba’ near Doddaballapura in the Bengaluru Rural district, where an 18-year-old youth was fatally stabbed by a group following an altercation. The incident was triggered after a photoshoot that took place at the establishment, according to the police.
Located at the entrance of the ‘dhaba’ is a wall adorned with attractive paintings, which often attracts customers for photoshoots.
On the occasion of Deepavali, Surya, accompanied by three friends, was capturing moments of joy when another group who had just finished their lunch at the ‘dhaba’ approached them and requested to have their own photos taken as well.
Initially, Surya and his friends declined the request, but later agreed to oblige, as reported by a senior police officer.

The group then insisted that Surya and his friends immediately transfer the pictures to one of their WhatsApp numbers.
However, Surya explained that the photos could not be directly sent to mobile phones as they were taken using a camera and needed to be downloaded and transferred to a computer or system first.
Despite the explanation, the other group continued to press for an immediate transfer of the pictures.
This led to a heated altercation between the two groups, escalating to a point where one of the accused, identified as Dileep, retrieved a sharp-edged weapon and stabbed Surya in the chest, causing him to collapse on the spot.
Surya was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, but tragically succumbed to his stab wounds.
The accused group quickly fled the scene on their motorcycles, leaving behind a shocked and devastated group of friends.
Mallikarjun Baldani, Superintendent of Police for Bengaluru Rural district, stated, “A case of murder has been registered in connection with the incident. Statements from the victim’s friends have also been recorded. We have managed to identify two of the five accused involved in the incident, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the remaining culprits.”
