Teenager Sustains Broken Leg After Being Hit by Motorcycle in Moalboal

In a shocking incident that occurred in the early hours of Sunday, November 12, 2023, a 15-year-old boy suffered a broken right leg after being struck by a motorcycle driven by a 17-year-old minor. The unfortunate incident took place in West Poblacion, Moalboal town, located in the southwest region of Cebu.

The victim, identified as John (real name withheld for being a minor), was enjoying a conversation with another 15-year-old boy named Peter (real name withheld) at the port. However, their laughter and banter were misconstrued by a 17-year-old boy known only as James, who believed they were mocking him.

Police Master Sergeant Stewart Bayang of the Moalboal Police Station, who is overseeing the investigation, stated that James approached John and Peter and unexpectedly punched them. Fearing for their safety, the two victims quickly fled and sought refuge behind a nearby school. Unfortunately, James, riding a motorcycle, relentlessly pursued them.

After sensing that James had left the vicinity, John and Peter cautiously emerged from their hiding place, hoping the danger had passed. However, to their horror, James reappeared and resumed the chase. Tragically, John was unable to outrun James, resulting in a collision that caused a severe leg injury.

John was immediately rushed to the nearest hospital to receive medical attention, while James was apprehended by the police and subsequently handed over to the municipality’s social welfare department.

During the course of the police investigation, James claimed that he committed the crime due to the alleged mockery he believed he endured from the victims. However, both John and Peter vehemently denied these accusations, asserting that they were simply engaged in friendly conversation and laughter.
