The Greater St. Louis Area Major Case Squad has been activated following the discovery of a lifeless body in a ditch near his residence in Collinsville. The victim has been identified as 21-year-old Tyrese L. Owens, residing in the 500 block of Loop Street.

Owens was found unconscious by a concerned neighbor, who immediately alerted the authorities. Upon arrival, the police discovered that Owens had sustained a severe laceration to his upper body, which ultimately led to his demise. The Madison County coroner’s investigator later confirmed his death.

The Collinsville Police Department, upon request, called in the Major Case Squad to investigate the incident. Approximately 20 investigators have been assigned to the case, with Lieutenant Mark Kuechle from CPD leading the investigation.

Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the incident to contact the Major Case Squad at 618-344-2131, ext. 5300, to assist in their ongoing investigation.

Prior to his tragic death, Owens was involved in a criminal complaint filed by the Madison County Prosecutor’s Office on October 30. The complaint stated that Owens had forfeited $518 in cash, which was suspected to be related to drugs, cannabis, and weapons.

According to court documents, Owens was pulled over by Collinsville police on October 25 for a traffic violation. During the stop, officers detected the odor of cannabis and noticed Owens and his 22-year-old female passenger acting suspiciously.

A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of various contraband items. These included 46 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, a .45 caliber Glock 30 Gen 4 handgun with an additional loaded magazine, two plastic bags containing approximately 73 grams of cannabis, packaging materials, a digital scale with residue pills believed to be acetaminophen/hydrocodone in Owens’ backpack, and a loaded Taurus G2c 9mm pistol found under the passenger seat. It was revealed that Owens did not possess a concealed carry permit.

Owens and his passenger were taken to the Collinsville Police Department for further questioning by members of the Southwest Illinois Metropolitan Enforcement Group. However, as of November 9, no charges have been filed in relation to this incident.
