The first Trang An Marathon, called “Footstrike from the Heritage,” will take place over the weekend in Ninh Binh province’s ancient capital of Hoa Lu. The event, jointly organized by the provincial Culture and Sport Department and Vu Media (VRace), is expected to welcome about 3,000 athletes, including 160 foreigners and national elite runners.

The marathon will feature four categories: full marathon (42.195km), half marathon (21.0975km), 10km, and 5km. All courses are designed within the Trang An natural heritage site, providing runners with the opportunity to experience the majestic and poetic natural scenery of towering mountains, lush greenery, and meandering rivers. Along the way, runners will also pass by thousand-year-old relics such as the Temple of King Dinh Tien Hoang and King Le Dai Hanh, Bai Dinh Pagoda, Am Tien Cave, and Trang An Wharf.

Nguyen Manh Cuong, director of the Culture and Sport Department and head of the organizing committee, stated that the Trang An Marathon 2023 is one of the activities to celebrate the second 2023 Ninh Binh Festival. The event aims to honor cultural and natural heritage and promote tourism, while building a sport tournament brand associated with the unique cultural heritage of the region.

Vu Van Phong, VRace Director and marathon director, highlighted that the tracks of Trang An Marathon are flat and lined with green trees, creating ideal conditions for athletes to set new personal records. He added that the four different routes will bring interesting and long-lasting experiences to all participants.

Prizes will be awarded to the top five athletes in each category. Additionally, runners with the most impressive cosplay will receive attractive bonuses, as cosplay has become a specialty of most national marathons.
