The incident unfolded in South Austin at approximately 4 a.m. when the armed suspect barricaded himself and the hostages inside a house, Henderson revealed. The harrowing situation came to light when one of the hostages, a brave woman, managed to escape and dialed emergency services just before 3 a.m. Her desperate plea for help was accompanied by screams, as she revealed that she had been stabbed.

Law enforcement officers swiftly responded to the distress call, but were forced to withdraw after the suspect started firing. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the SWAT team was called in and arrived at the scene around 4 a.m., according to Henderson. “This has been a very tragic day, a very tragic incident for all involved,” Henderson somberly expressed.

The suspect wasted no time in opening fire as soon as the SWAT team entered the premises. The ensuing exchange of gunfire resulted in injuries to two officers, who were promptly rushed to a medical facility. “At 3:06 a.m., because the suspect was armed and barricaded inside a residence and had two hostages, SWAT was called out,” Henderson explained. “At approximately 4:11 a.m., SWAT officers arrived on scene and forced entry into the residence a second time to rescue the victims.”

Tragically, one of the officers succumbed to their injuries, while the other remains in stable condition. The suspect, along with the two other victims who were held hostage inside the barricaded home, were pronounced dead at the scene. The fallen officer was later identified as Jorge Pastore, a dedicated member of the SWAT squad who had served the department for three years. Officer Pastore leaves behind a loving family, including two stepsons and a spouse.
