Police are making significant progress in their efforts to identify the perpetrator responsible for the tragic shooting incident at Rajamangala University of Technology Tawan-Ok, Uthenthawai Campus. The incident occurred on Saturday morning when a gunman attacked a brilliant freshman, resulting in the death of a teacher and serious injuries to the student.

According to Pol Col Withawat Chinkham, the acting commander of the Metropolitan Police Division 5, investigators have made crucial strides in their attempts to identify the assailant. The gunman, dressed in a long-sleeved shirt and wearing a full-face helmet, arrived at the scene on the back of a motorcycle.

The injured freshman has been identified as 19-year-old Thanasorn Hongsawat, who is currently receiving treatment at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital. Police authorities have mobilized detectives from the Metropolitan Police Bureau, Metropolitan Police Division 5, and the Thung Mahamek police station to work on the investigation.

Pol Col Withawat expressed confidence that the gunman’s identity would be determined in the near future, as detectives have been diligently tracking his escape. While the police have not ruled out any possible motives for the crime, they are focusing on a potential rivalry between different campuses.

It is worth noting that the deceased student was not directly involved in the conflict, being a freshman at the university. In the incident, the initial shot missed the intended male victim but tragically struck the head of a teacher who was at a TMBThanachart Bank (TTB) branch on Sunthornkosa Road, preparing to use an ATM.

The victim, Sirada Sinprasert, aged 45, was a beloved teacher at the nearby Sacred Heart Convent School. Her family is currently making arrangements for her funeral rites in Suphan Buri, her native province. The school management and the government have expressed their deepest condolences over the loss of this dedicated education professional.

Meanwhile, the mother of the seriously injured student, Pornpimol, has rushed from Samut Sakhorn to be at her son’s side. She shared that his condition is critical, as he is about to undergo his third operation due to continuous bleeding from a neck wound and a bullet lodged in his leg.

Describing her son as an exemplary student with a bright academic record, Pornpimol revealed that he had no classes scheduled on the day of the incident. Instead, he had planned to assist in decorating the campus for an upcoming graduation ceremony for senior students. She emphasized that her son had no personal conflicts and was dedicated to his studies, giving the family high hopes for his future.

Expressing her anguish, Pornpimol questioned when the persistent violence against technology students would end and prayed for her son’s miraculous recovery.

With investigators closing in on the gunman’s identity, the hope is that justice will be served swiftly, providing solace to the grieving families and ensuring the safety of students in the future..
