The call reported a stabbing victim in need of immediate assistance. Upon arrival, the officers provided first aid to the victim and gathered information from witnesses, who provided a description of the suspect.

The Fresno Police Department’s helicopter, Air1, was deployed to aid in the search for the suspect. The helicopter located an individual matching the description in a nearby church parking lot. Additional officers were dispatched to the scene to make contact with the suspect, identified as 45-year-old Samuel Davidson-Rollin.

Maintaining a safe distance, the officers approached Davidson-Rollin and attempted to engage in conversation. However, instead of cooperating, Davidson-Rollin advanced towards the officers while brandishing a knife and a canister of pepper spray. Despite repeated commands from the officers to stop and drop the weapons, Davidson-Rollin disregarded their instructions.

As Davidson-Rollin continued to approach the officers, he sprayed pepper spray at them, further escalating the situation. Faced with a direct threat to their safety, two officers discharged their firearms, striking Davidson-Rollin. Immediately after the shooting, the officers provided medical aid to the suspect until paramedics arrived. Davidson-Rollin was then transported to CRMC for treatment of his injuries. Fortunately, his injuries were not life-threatening, and he is expected to survive.

The incident was captured on police video, which clearly shows Davidson-Rollin advancing towards the officers despite their attempts to de-escalate the situation.
