According to a press release issued by the Indiana State Police (ISP), the incident began when troopers spotted a Cadillac Escalade driven by Workman on Interstate 70 near mile marker 114. Upon realizing that the vehicle’s driver had outstanding warrants in several counties, the troopers attempted to initiate a traffic stop. However, Workman refused to comply and instead accelerated, initiating a dangerous pursuit.

The chase, which began in Henry County, continued through various areas before coming to an end in Hancock County. ISP deputies strategically placed stop sticks on the road, causing both tires on the passenger side of the Escalade to deflate. Despite this setback, Workman persisted in his attempt to evade capture, driving the vehicle on its flattened tires.

As the pursuit progressed, both passenger side tires of the Escalade eventually flew off, leaving the vehicle to scrape along on its rims. Finally, near mile marker 87, the Escalade’s axles gave way, rendering it immobile. However, the suspect refused to surrender, barricading himself inside the vehicle. In response, ISP personnel employed non-lethal measures, including pepper ball guns and tasers, to de-escalate the situation.

Another individual, later identified as 48-year-old Jennifer Workman of Indianapolis, was found to be a passenger in the Escalade. She complied with police instructions and was taken into custody alongside Robert Workman. Subsequent searches of the vehicle yielded the discovery of methamphetamine and other drug paraphernalia. As a result, Robert Workman now faces seven preliminary charges, including resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, which is a Level 5 Felony.

Jennifer Workman, on the other hand, has been charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of paraphernalia. In Indiana, possession of methamphetamine is classified as a Level 6 Felony.

This incident serves as a reminder of the dangers faced by law enforcement officers as they work to apprehend individuals with active warrants. The Indiana State Police are commended for their quick response and effective handling of the situation, ensuring the safety of both the public and themselves.

The arrest and subsequent charges against Robert Workman highlight the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat drug-related offenses and uphold public safety. The collaboration between various counties and the determined pursuit by state troopers demonstrate the commitment to justice and the protection of communities across Indiana..
