Mumbai: A 28-year-old man reportedly took his own life by jumping off the famous Bandra-Worli Sea Link after going through a difficult breakup with his girlfriend, according to the police. The deceased, identified as Akash Singh, resided in Parel, central Mumbai, and was employed at a private bank.

On Friday night, Singh boarded a taxi at Bandra-Kurla Complex with intentions to reach Parel. However, during the journey, he changed his destination and directed the driver towards the Sea Link, as stated by an official from the Worli police.

While on the bridge, Singh, engaged in a phone conversation, suddenly mentioned that he had accidentally dropped his mobile phone. Reacting promptly, the driver pulled over, and at that moment, Singh swiftly exited the vehicle and leaped into the sea, the official disclosed. His lifeless body was later recovered during the night.

Preliminary investigations reveal that Singh, who resided with his parents, had experienced a distressing breakup with his girlfriend approximately three months ago.

In a separate incident, a tragic discovery was made in a hotel near Maujpur Metro Station in Delhi, where a couple was found dead. The post-mortem examination report confirmed that the woman had been strangled to death, while the man had taken his own life after committing the heinous act, as per the police statements on Thursday. The authorities concluded that the couple had jointly decided to end their lives, as a half-page handwritten suicide note expressing their love and shared intent to end their lives together was discovered.

The deceased individuals were identified as Sohrab (28), hailing from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, and Ayesha (27), a resident of Loni, Uttar Pradesh. According to the Delhi police, the couple was in a relationship and had made the tragic decision to end their lives. Sohrab first strangled Ayesha to death before taking his own life by hanging himself in the hotel room. This unfortunate incident occurred on October 27, 2023, and the Jafrabad police station received a PCR call regarding the situation.
