Keith D. Adkins, a 32-year-old resident of Grandview, now faces multiple felony charges, including Murder 2nd Degree, Assault 1st Degree, two counts of Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Resisting Arrest, two counts of Tampering with a Motor Vehicle 1st Degree, and five counts of Armed Criminal Action.

According to court records, the incident began when officers from the Kansas City Police Department were dispatched to the 6000 block of E. 13th Street following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered a juvenile victim lying in the street near a Kia Sportage that had collided with a pole.

The injured victim was immediately transported to the hospital but tragically succumbed to their injuries. The Jackson County Medical Examiner determined the cause of death to be a homicide.

Further investigation, supported by video surveillance footage from the area, revealed that the driver of a black Silverado, later identified as Keith D. Adkins, had leaned out of the vehicle’s window and fired two shots at the Kia before it crashed into the pole.
