The incident occurred on Tuesday, October 14, at approximately 2:55 p.m. CDCR identified the two suspects as 57-year-old Roland C. Corona and 33-year-old Luis Alvidrez. Duran sustained multiple stab wounds and was immediately transported to a medical facility outside the prison for a higher level of care.

Tragically, Duran’s condition worsened, and on Thursday, November 9, at approximately 9:14 p.m., he was pronounced dead while under the care of medical staff at Kern Medical Center. Fortunately, no staff members or other incarcerated individuals were injured during the incident.

The Kern Valley State Prison’s Investigative Services Unit, in collaboration with the Kern County District Attorney’s Office and the Kern County Coroner, is working on the case.
