Fisherman Baji Berinau Found Safe After Being Adrift at Sea Overnight

Accident – Death – Obituary News : MIRI, November 12th – A 46-year-old fisherman, identified as Baji Berinau, was discovered safe and sound after an overnight ordeal at sea near Kuala Baram in Miri. The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) reported that the victim had set out to fish in his own boat at approximately 4 am on November 11th.

Worryingly, as the hours passed and Baji Berinau failed to return home by the afternoon, his concerned brother decided to lodge a police report at 2.55 pm. In a bid to locate the missing fisherman, other fishermen from the area quickly organized a search and rescue operation.

Fortunately, at around 10.24 am the following day, Baji Berinau was found safe and was transported to the Sri Bima Jetty in Marina Bay. From there, he was handed over to the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) officials.

According to the Bomba report, it was revealed that the victim had been discovered by a fellow fisherman from Brunei. It appeared that Baji Berinau’s boat had run out of fuel, leaving him adrift and eventually drifting into the waters of the neighboring country.

In a stroke of luck, the distressed fisherman managed to seek assistance from the kind-hearted Bruneian fisherman who helped refuel his boat, ultimately rescuing him from his precarious situation.

The successful rescue operation highlights the importance of timely action and the collaboration between local communities in times of crisis. The dedication and swift response from the local fishermen and the authorities contributed to the safe return of Baji Berinau.
