The death toll from the devastating blasts that occurred during a Jehovah’s Witnesses convention at the international convention centre in Kalamassery near Kochi has risen to five, according to the Kerala government. The victim, identified as 45-year-old Sally Pradeepan from Malayattoor in Ernakulam district, passed away at a private hospital on Saturday night. The woman had been on ventilator support, as reported by the government health bulletin.

Meanwhile, at least 17 people who were injured during the blasts on October 29 are still undergoing treatment in various hospitals in Kochi, as stated by a medical board specially formed to care for the wounded individuals. Of the injured, eight are in the intensive care unit (ICU), with one in critical condition, while the remaining nine are in regular wards.
The shocking incident occurred during a religious gathering of the Christian sect known as Jehovah’s Witnesses. Over 50 people were injured, some severely, during the series of explosions that disrupted the three-day prayer meet at the international convention centre. The incident left the faithfuls shaken and the authorities scrambling for answers.
Tragically, a 12-year-old girl named Libina from Malayattoor succumbed to her injuries on October 30 at the Kalamassery Government Medical College Hospital. Additionally, two women who were part of the gathering lost their lives on the day of the blasts. The entire community was left devastated by the loss of innocent lives.
In a significant development, a man named Dominic Martin, who claimed to be an estranged member of Jehovah’s Witnesses, surrendered to the police in Thrissur district hours after the blasts. He confessed to carrying out the multiple explosions that shook the convention centre. The police promptly recorded his arrest.

Dominic Martin has been charged under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which deals with punishment for murder, as well as Section 3 of the Explosive Substances Act. In addition, relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) have also been applied in this case. The authorities are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the motives behind this shocking act of violence.
