Police – Accident – Death – Obituary News : Covington Man Fatally Crashes into 18-Wheeler on Interstate 12
COVINGTON, La. (WVUE) – A tragic incident unfolded on Saturday night (Nov. 12) when a 36-year-old Covington man lost his life in a fatal car crash involving an 18-wheeler on Interstate 12, as confirmed by Louisiana State Police.

The victim, identified as Treddis Russell, was driving eastbound on I-12 in St. Tammany Parish, near La. Hwy. 1077, when the accident occurred shortly before 10 p.m. According to troopers, Russell was trailing behind a 2020 Kenworth truck when the traffic ahead caused the driver of the truck to slow down. In a chain of events still under investigation, Russell’s 2004 Toyota Camry collided forcefully with the rear of the Kenworth’s trailer.
Despite wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision, Russell suffered fatal injuries and tragically succumbed to them at the crash site. The driver of the 18-wheeler, who was also wearing a seat belt, miraculously escaped unharmed.
In order to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the incident, Louisiana State Police collected routine toxicology samples from both drivers. These samples will play a crucial role in the ongoing crash investigation. As part of their efforts, the agency reminded motorists of the importance of never driving impaired, fatigued, or distracted.
This tragic accident serves as a somber reminder of the potential dangers that lurk on our roadways.
