At the time of the accident, two officers from the Franklin Police Division (FPD) were on patrol with their K9 partner, a dog named Fury. They were driving southwest when Sims, traveling at a high rate of speed, began going the wrong way on South River Street and collided with the marked police vehicle, which had Fury and his handlers inside.

Tragically, the brave K9 succumbed to his injuries shortly before 11:40 a.m. The two FPD officers, whose identities have not yet been disclosed, suffered minor injuries in the collision and were taken to Kettering Health Franklin for treatment.

Meanwhile, Sims is currently receiving treatment for minor injuries at Atrium Medical Center. Upon his release from the hospital, he will be booked into the Warren County Jail to face the initial criminal charges, as stated by the OSHP. However, it is worth noting that additional criminal charges may be added as the investigation into the crash continues. The exact speed at which Sims was driving when he struck the police cruiser, as well as whether drugs or alcohol played a role, remains unknown at this time.
