KOCHI: The number of casualties in the Kalamassery explosions has tragically risen to five, following the passing of a 44-year-old woman who was receiving medical treatment. Saly Pradeepan, who sustained injuries during the multiple blasts at the prayer gathering held at the Zamra Convention Centre on October 29, was on ventilator support at Aster Medcity.

The hospital authorities have reported that Saly Pradeepan suffered severe burns, covering more than 55% of her body, and her condition was deemed critical. Regrettably, her death was confirmed at 10:07 pm on Saturday. The body will be released to her family members after the completion of post-mortem procedures on Sunday.

This heartbreaking loss adds to the already devastating circumstances for Malayattoor resident Pradeepan, as he had already lost his daughter, 12-year-old Libna, on October 30 at the Ernakulam Government Medical College Hospital. The prayer meeting, which resulted in this tragedy, was attended by Saly and her three children. Pradeepan’s son, Praveen, aged 24, is currently receiving ventilator support at Aster Medcity, while Rahul, another one of Saly’s sons, survived the incident with minor injuries.

Among the other victims who lost their lives in the blasts were identified as Liyona Poulose, aged 55, Kumari, aged 53, and Molly Joy, aged 61. Currently, a total of 17 patients are receiving treatment for their injuries, with eight of them being admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
