36-year-old Covington man, Treddis Russell, dies in crash on Interstate 12

Police – Accident – Death – Obituary News : COVINGTON, La. (WVUE) – A tragic accident occurred on Saturday night (Nov. 12) on Interstate 12, claiming the life of a 36-year-old Covington resident. According to the Louisiana State Police, Treddis Russell was killed when his 2004 Toyota Camry collided with the back of an 18-wheeler that was traveling ahead of him.

The authorities stated that Russell had been following the 18-wheeler in the eastbound lanes of I-12, near La. Hwy. 1077 in St. Tammany Parish, at approximately 10 p.m. Traffic congestion forced the driver of the 2020 Kenworth truck to slow down, but unfortunately, Russell was unable to stop in time. The impact resulted in a devastating collision between his Camry and the rear of the Kenworth’s trailer.

Despite wearing a seat belt, Russell suffered fatal injuries and tragically lost his life at the scene of the crash. The driver of the 18-wheeler, who was also wearing a seat belt, escaped unharmed.

In order to gather more information about the incident, routine toxicology samples were collected from both drivers. These samples will undergo analysis as part of the ongoing investigation into the crash. Additionally, the Louisiana State Police issued a stern warning to all motorists, advising them against driving under the influence, driving while fatigued, or engaging in any form of distracted driving.

The loss of Treddis Russell’s life serves as a somber reminder of the importance of responsible driving. As the investigation continues, it is hoped that valuable insights will be gained to prevent similar accidents in the future.
