Woman Arrested for Stabbing and Carjacking Elderly Man in Barstow

BARSTOW, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A woman wanted for a violent crime spree involving the stabbing and carjacking of an elderly man in Barstow has been apprehended after a high-speed pursuit that ended in Phelan. The incident, which took place on November 8, 2023, has shocked the local community and left authorities scrambling to gather more information.

The victim, a 72-year-old man, was loading groceries into his vehicle on the 500 block of E. Virginia Way when he was approached by a black female adult identified as 34-year-old Kieaira Shanta Jackson. Without warning, Jackson allegedly stabbed the elderly man in the chest with an unknown object and proceeded to steal his white Dodge Dart.

In a shocking turn of events, the suspect loaded five young children, ranging in age from 6 months to 9 years old, into the stolen vehicle. To make matters worse, nine loaded firearms were also found inside the car, putting the lives of both the children and other innocent bystanders at risk.

Barstow Police Officers quickly responded to the scene and attempted to conduct a traffic stop as the suspect fled. However, Jackson showed no regard for the safety of others, leading officers on a dangerous pursuit. Speeding down the southbound I-15 freeway at over 100 M.P.H., she weaved in and out of traffic, driving on the shoulder and endangering the lives of countless motorists.

Recognizing the need for additional resources, the Barstow PD handed over the pursuit to the California Highway Patrol near the southbound I-15 at Stoddard Wells Road. The chase continued into Phelan, where the suspect’s erratic driving ultimately caused the stolen vehicle to become disabled in the area of Paramount Street and Luna Road.

Law enforcement officials wasted no time in taking Kieaira Jackson into custody. Shockingly, she was found to be in possession of nine loaded firearms, including assault rifles. The Department of Child Services was immediately called to the scene and took the five children into protective custody, ensuring their safety.

The elderly victim was flown to Loma Linda University Medical Center in stable condition as a precautionary measure, underscoring the severity of the attack. Meanwhile, Jackson, a resident of St. Louis, MO, faces a laundry list of charges including attempted murder, carjacking, felony evading, child endangerment, and carrying a loaded unregistered firearm.

Following her arrest, Jackson was booked at the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto. Her bail has been set at $1,075,000, and she is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in a Victorville courtroom on November 13, 2023, at 12:30 pm.
