Waterford Township Woman Charged in Drunk Driving Crash That Killed Motorcyclist

The incident occurred on September 15, when Jessica Lenore Kellar, aged 30, was driving east on Huron Street near Woodward Avenue in Pontiac. Allegedly, Kellar made a left turn into the path of a motorcyclist traveling in the same direction, resulting in a tragic accident. The victim, a 70-year-old resident from White Lake Township, was thrown into the air and sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

According to a statement released by McDonald’s office, Kellar had a minor in her truck at the time of the crash and her blood alcohol level was found to be above the legal limit. The Oakland County Prosecutor expressed grave concern over the incident, stating that driving under the influence poses a significant threat to public safety and can potentially lead to fatal consequences. McDonald emphasized that no one should operate a vehicle while intoxicated and those who make such reckless choices will be held accountable for their actions.

On Thursday, Kellar was officially charged with two offenses: operating a vehicle while intoxicated and causing death, as well as operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a passenger under the age of 16. If convicted, these charges carry severe penalties. The felony charge for causing death could result in up to 16 years of incarceration, while the misdemeanor charge for having an intoxicated minor as a passenger may lead to a fine of up to $1,000.

Kellar was assigned a bond of $25,000 by the court. If she manages to secure her release, she will be subject to several restrictions. These include not being allowed to drive, wearing an alcohol tether, and being prohibited from entering any establishment that serves or dispenses alcohol.
