Tragic Shooting Incident Claims the Life of a 4-Year-Old Girl in Miami-Dade County, Florida

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A heart-wrenching incident unfolded over the weekend as a 4-year-old girl tragically lost her life after being shot in the head by her younger brother. The devastating news was confirmed by the girl’s mother, Krystal Banegas, who set up a GoFundMe page to seek assistance with the funeral expenses.

In her emotional plea, Banegas shared the heartbreak of the incident, stating, “My princess was accidentally shot by her little brother in her forehead on Sunday, November 5, 2023. My princess fought as long as she could. She was a fighter, so full of life. She was jolly, always flashing her beautiful smile, very photogenic, incredibly sweet, and took great care of her siblings.”

The grieving mother identified her daughter as Josalyn, whose life was tragically cut short in an unimaginable manner.

The Miami-Dade police confirmed that the distressing incident occurred on Sunday at a residence located in the 8100 block of Northwest 21st Avenue in the unincorporated West Little River area of the county.

Following the incident, law enforcement officials swiftly took action. Quavanta Ennels, a 25-year-old individual reported to be the boyfriend of Josalyn’s mother, was arrested on the same night. He faces charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

According to the police, the tragic incident occurred when the children were in a bedroom, and Ennels had negligently left a Taurus 9 mm pistol in a backpack. Shockingly, the victim’s 3-year-old brother managed to retrieve the illegally-obtained firearm and unintentionally shot her in the head.

Emergency medical services rushed to the scene and transported the critically injured girl to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center. Initially, the police reported that she was “fighting for her life.”

While the exact date and time of Josalyn’s passing have not been officially confirmed by her relatives or the police, the GoFundMe page was created on Thursday to aid the family in covering the funeral costs.

For those wishing to extend their support, donations can be made through the GoFundMe page established by the family. Every contribution will help alleviate the financial burden faced by the grieving family during this difficult time.
