The bus driver, identified as V. Prakasam, has been taken into custody by the Krishnalanka police, who registered a case in connection with the incident. Both the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) and the police have initiated separate inquiries to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding the accident. V. Prakasam, a 61-year-old driver who is set to retire in a mere three months, has been charged under Section 304 (A) IPC (Causing death by negligence) and Section 337 IPC (Causing hurt to a person with rash and negligent driving endangering human life), according to Krishnalanka Circle Inspector M.V. Durga Rao.

While the driver has been arrested, he has been released on station bail as the investigation into the matter continues, as stated by the Circle Inspector. It has been revealed that Mr. Prakasam commenced his shift by taking the bus from the Auto Nagar bus depot at 5:30 a.m. on November 6 (Monday). After completing the initial trip from Vijayawada to Guntur and back, the accident occurred while the bus was preparing for its second trip to Guntur at 8:30 a.m.

Authorities have confirmed that engineers from the vehicle manufacturing company inspected the bus and certified it to be in proper working condition. Subsequently, the APSRTC officials handed over the bus to the police for further investigation. An officer involved in the case shared that prior to taking the bus out of the depot or after completing the first trip, Mr. Prakasam, who had previously operated Super Luxury and Volvo buses to destinations such as Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Guntur, had not reported any issues with the vehicle.

It is worth noting that the driver had recently returned to duty after taking sick leave for a month, according to the investigating officer. As the case progresses, it is expected that more details will emerge shedding light on the specific factors contributing to the tragic accident at Pandit Nehru Bus Station.
