Swiss National Fatally Struck by Passenger Bus in Road Mishap

In a tragic incident along the national highway in Tulic, Argao town, a Swiss national lost his life after being allegedly hit by a passenger bus heading to Samboan town. The victim, identified as Hans Ulrich Leuzinger, was a widower residing in Barangay Tulic, Argao.

The unfortunate incident occurred at 8:15 p.m. on Thursday, November 9, 2023. The driver of the Sunrays bus, Renante Piega, 40, hailing from Barangay Suba, Samboan, shared his account of the incident with SunStar Cebu. According to Piega, the foreigner was following closely behind his bus when he suddenly fell. Piega found himself accused of hitting the victim due to his proximity to the incident.

Piega suggested that the ongoing road widening project in the area may have caused the foreigner to lose balance. He stated that the victim might have encountered difficulty on the sandy road, which had recently transformed from four lanes to two due to the construction. However, Piega firmly denied hitting the victim and fleeing the scene.

According to Piega, he halted the bus several meters away from the accident site and proceeded to inquire with his passengers if he had inadvertently struck the victim. To his relief, they responded in the negative, leading him to continue his journey.

Upon receiving a report about the incident, the Dalaguete police, under the command of Major Clemente Ceralde Jr., swiftly implemented a roadblock. The bus driver was apprehended in front of the municipal hall and subsequently handed over to the Argao Police Station for further investigation.

Meanwhile, the victim was rushed to the Isidro C. Kintanar Memorial Hospital in Barangay Bogo, Argao, where his attending physician pronounced him dead. The tragic turn of events has left the community in shock and mourning.
