Accident – Death – Obituary News : Suspect in U.S. Capitol Attack Surrenders to New Jersey Police
(Monroe, N.J.) – In a development related to the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol, a suspect who had been on the run since FBI agents attempted to arrest him at his residence, surrendered to police in Monroe Township, New Jersey on Friday. Gregory Yetman, 47, turned himself in without incident, according to Amy Thoreson, spokesperson for the Newark FBI office.

Monroe Township, located near Yetman’s residence in Helmetta, a small town in central New Jersey, is approximately 43 miles (69 kilometers) south of New York City. The circumstances surrounding Yetman’s surrender, including the presence of an attorney or any legal representation, were not immediately disclosed. A message left on Yetman’s home answering machine seeking comment went unanswered.

Yetman faces multiple charges, including assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers, obstruction of law enforcement during civil disorder, entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds, engaging in physical violence in a restricted building or grounds, and committing an act of physical violence in the Capitol grounds or buildings, as stated by the FBI.

Earlier this year, USA Today reported that Yetman, whom they identified as a former military police sergeant in the New Jersey National Guard, had been interviewed by the FBI regarding his alleged involvement in the riot. He is suspected of deploying pepper spray against protesters and police officers during the unrest. Yetman, however, vehemently denies any wrongdoing at the Capitol and refutes claims of using pepper spray.

Since the attack on the U.S. Capitol, approximately 1,200 individuals have been charged with federal crimes related to the riot. Among them, over 800 have either pleaded guilty or have been convicted by a jury or judge after trial. More than 700 individuals have been sentenced, with around two-thirds receiving prison terms ranging from as short as three days to as long as 22 years.

The surrender of Gregory Yetman is another significant development in the ongoing investigation into the events of January 6th. The authorities continue their efforts to hold all those involved accountable for their actions that day..
