Tragic Fire Claims the Life of Homeless Man on Huntington Street

FILE - Firefighters early on Friday morning found a body after responding to a fire on Huntington Street.

A devastating fire outbreak on Huntington Street has resulted in the tragic death of a man, later identified as 34-year-old Luis Edgardo Gonzalez, according to a statement released by the Richmond County Coroner’s Office.

The unfortunate incident unfolded in the early hours of Friday morning when firefighters swiftly responded to a distress call regarding a structure fire on the 500 block of Huntington Street. Upon arrival, they discovered the lifeless body of Edgardo Gonzalez inside the engulfed building. It has been confirmed that the victim was homeless at the time of the incident.

The emergency call was received at precisely 2:07 a.m., prompting the brave firefighters to promptly rush to the scene. Tragically, despite their valiant efforts, Edgardo Gonzalez was pronounced dead at 3 a.m. by the attending medical professionals. The Richmond County Coroner’s Office has scheduled an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Presently, no further information has been made available to the public.
