According to police, the incident took place in July when they responded to a possible hit-and-run report. Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered Galchenyuk lying on the ground. Initially, they found his father in the driver’s seat of a white BMW. However, further investigation revealed that Galchenyuk was the one behind the wheel during the accident, which involved hitting a parking lot sign, a curb, and another vehicle.

At the time of the arrest, Galchenyuk was playing for the Arizona Coyotes, a professional ice hockey team.

The released bodycam footage exposes Galchenyuk making disturbing comments towards the officers. He can be heard threatening them, saying, “You will die in the desert,” and “I will end your bloodline.” Additionally, Galchenyuk is seen uttering racial slurs towards one of the officers, who happened to be Black, as reported by USA Today.

Furthermore, Galchenyuk reportedly threatened to harm one officer’s family by threatening to cut out their kidneys. He also made threats towards another officer, stating, “I’ll kill your (expletive) wife, I’ll kill your (expletive) daughter.” He even claimed to have connections in Russia that he could use to harm the officer’s family, saying, “There’s gonna be one (expletive) phone call, and you’ll never see your (expletive) family again.”

Galchenyuk, who was selected as the third overall pick in the 2012 NHL Draft by the Montreal Canadiens, had played for multiple teams throughout his career. In addition to the Pittsburgh Penguins, he had stints with the Minnesota Wild, Ottawa Senators, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Colorado Avalanche.

The release of the bodycam footage has shed light on the disturbing behavior exhibited by the former NHL player during his arrest. It serves as a reminder of the need for accountability and respect towards law enforcement officers.
