Speaking to The New York Times, Slavicek revealed that the search for Yetman commenced at 8 a.m. on Wednesday when FBI agents arrived to apprehend him. However, Yetman managed to elude capture by fleeing into the nearby woods, leaving the community on edge.

The mayor emphasized the commitment of law enforcement to apprehending Yetman, stating, “We will be in the area staging until Yetman is arrested.” In line with this dedication, the FBI’s Newark office has set up a command operation at the local community center to coordinate their efforts.

Earlier this year, USA Today published a report identifying Yetman as a former military police sergeant in the New Jersey National Guard. The publication revealed that he had been interviewed by the FBI regarding his alleged participation in the Capitol riot. Yetman is suspected of deploying pepper spray against both protesters and police officers during the chaotic events that unfolded that day. Yetman vehemently denies these allegations, asserting that he did nothing wrong during his time at the Capitol.
