Multiple Vehicles and Building Struck as Suspects Flee

In an incident that left a trail of destruction in its wake, two suspects in a stolen vehicle attempted to escape in Southington on Thursday. The dramatic turn of events unfolded when police officers received a notification from a “FLOCK” license plate reader, alerting them to a stolen vehicle entering Southington at approximately 7:43 p.m. that evening, as reported by the Southington Police Department.

Responding swiftly, law enforcement officers located the stolen vehicle parked in a commercial lot at 1664 Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike. Upon approaching the vehicle, officers discovered two individuals inside.

Driver Rams Police Cruiser and Occupied Vehicle

As police converged on the scene, attempting to block the stolen vehicle in, the driver, later identified as 28-year-old Damon Davis from Waterbury, reportedly rammed a police cruiser and another occupied vehicle parked nearby, which belonged to a patron of a local business.

Undeterred by the impact, Davis then exited the stolen vehicle and made an attempt to flee on foot. However, his escape was short-lived as officers swiftly apprehended him. During the arrest, Davis was found in possession of a handgun with an obliterated serial number, along with 70 bags of fentanyl and nearly $2,000 in cash.

Second Suspect Causes Further Damage in Escape Bid

While Davis was being taken into custody, the second suspect, identified as 27-year-old Tiomonte Morgan, also from Waterbury, took advantage of the situation and assumed control of the stolen vehicle. Morgan proceeded to reverse the vehicle, resulting in collisions with a commercial building and an unoccupied vehicle.

Undeterred by the initial impact, Morgan then drove a short distance through the parking lot before deliberately ramming another Southington police cruiser. His actions prompted additional officers to converge on the scene as Morgan continued his escape attempt.

In a desperate bid to evade capture, Morgan repeatedly rammed between two police vehicles until the stolen vehicle became disabled. Law enforcement officers managed to access the vehicle through the driver’s side window and successfully apprehended Morgan.

Discovery of Weapons and Drugs

During a subsequent search of the stolen vehicle, police made several alarming discoveries. A loaded Glock handgun, identified as stolen and modified to function as an automatic weapon, was found on the floor of the driver’s side. Additionally, authorities uncovered 610 individual bags of fentanyl, 6.6 grams of powder fentanyl, 7.1 grams of cocaine, 1.5 ounces of crack cocaine, and various drug paraphernalia associated with drug sales.

Previous Incident and Charges Faced by Suspects

Further investigation revealed that the stolen vehicle had been involved in a prior incident in Middletown, during which the driver had fled and caused damage to a police cruiser.

Damon Davis now faces charges including two counts of possession with intent to sell, as well as single counts of first-degree larceny, second-degree reckless endangerment, interfering with an officer, criminal possession of a firearm, possession of weapons in a motor vehicle, obliterated serial number, and first-degree criminal mischief. He is currently being held in custody on a $1 million bond and is expected to be arraigned on Monday in New Britain Superior Court.

Tiomonte Morgan, on the other hand, faces charges including two counts of possession with intent to sell, criminal attempt to commit second-degree assault, first-degree larceny, criminal possession of a firearm, possession of a machine gun, possession of weapons in a motor vehicle, first-degree criminal mischief, possession of a stolen firearm, first-degree reckless endangerment, interfering with an officer, and possession of a high-capacity magazine.
