McDowell County, NC – A suspect has been arrested in connection with a deadly shooting that occurred earlier this week in McDowell County. According to deputies, the incident took place on Tuesday evening in a residential area.

The suspect, identified as Doyle Whisenhunt, was taken into custody on Wednesday following an extensive manhunt. Whisenhunt is facing several charges, including attempted murder.

According to the incident report, Whisenhunt allegedly drove through a gate at Oconee Nuclear Station and attempted to enter the plant in the exit lane. He broke the wooden gate off the post and ignored a security guard’s orders to stop. The guard then pointed a rifle at Whisenhunt and tried to prevent him from running him over. Fortunately, the guard was able to jump to safety.

Whisenhunt was apprehended the next day after an hours-long manhunt. During his arrest, authorities found methamphetamine on his person, and he admitted that it was his.

Whisenhunt is currently being held at the Oconee County Detention Center pending further investigation and court proceedings.
