Jalandhar, Punjab: A devastating gas cylinder explosion occurred on Friday afternoon in Satnam Nagar, Jalandhar, resulting in the tragic deaths of a 45-year-old man, Harpal Singh, and his 17-year-old son, Jobanjit Singh. Harpal’s wife, Manjit Kaur, suffered critical burn injuries in the incident. The blast, followed by a fire, engulfed their house, causing immense damage.

The ill-fated family was engaged in the business of manufacturing rubber-based weight training plates. The explosion caused not only the gas cylinder to ignite but also set fire to the rubber materials stored within the house. Unfortunately, the family became trapped inside the premises as the fire rapidly spread. Locals and fire brigade teams valiantly rescued them from the perilous situation.
Harpal Singh and Jobanjit Singh were immediately rushed to the local civil hospital. Despite the best efforts of medical personnel, they were declared brought dead upon arrival. Manjit Kaur, suffering from severe burn injuries, continues to receive intensive medical treatment at the hospital.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Nirmal Singh, highlighted that forensic teams have been dispatched to gather samples from the site of the incident. Their investigation aims to determine the exact cause of the explosion in the cooking gas cylinder, shedding light on any potential safety concerns.
This unfortunate incident marks the second gas cylinder explosion-related tragedy in Jalandhar within a month. On October 8, another family residing in Jalandhar’s Anand Nagar faced a similar fate when a refrigerator compressor exploded, resulting in the tragic death of six family members.

Such incidents serve as a grim reminder of the importance of adhering to proper safety protocols while handling gas cylinders and other potentially hazardous appliances.
