17-Year-Old Darteal Byers Identified as Fourth Victim in Fatal Upper Marlboro Crash

Accident – Death – Obituary News : PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — Authorities have now identified the fourth individual who was involved in a tragic car accident in Upper Marlboro, resulting in the death of all four passengers.

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, which occurred in Mitchellville on Friday, September 29.

According to reports, officers initially noticed a Kia Sorento with expired tags in the area of Lottsford Rd. and Palmetto Dr. at approximately 7:30 p.m. In an attempt to pull over the vehicle, the driver sped off, prompting a brief pursuit by the officers. However, they lost sight of the Kia shortly after.

An independent witness came forward and informed the police that they had observed the Kia in the 12800 block of Woodmore Rd. The witness reported that they saw the vehicle lose control while attempting to pass them.

Sadly, the Kia was involved in a crash shortly after. Following the accident, investigators discovered that the vehicle had been stolen during an armed robbery in the city of Greenbelt.

On October 9, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner confirmed the identities of three of the four occupants who lost their lives in the collision. The driver was identified as 14-year-old Marquay Swann from Lanham, while the two passengers were identified as 15-year-old Zyshaun Cuffey from Glenarden and 15-year-old Serenity Sellman from Upper Marlboro.

Now, on November 10, authorities have finally identified the fourth occupant as 17-year-old Darteal Byers from Upper Marlboro.
