Promptly, patrol deputies and the Criminal Investigation Division rushed to the scene to assess the situation. Medical personnel confirmed the unfortunate news that the female was indeed deceased.

Criminal investigators, in collaboration with the St. Landry Parish Coroner’s Office, conducted a preliminary investigation at the scene. Their findings revealed that the victim had suffered a single gunshot wound to the head. As the investigation progressed, a suspect came to light.

During the course of their inquiry, the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office received information from the Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Department about a suicide victim found in a vehicle near the Whiskey Bay area. Iberville Parish detectives shared details from a note left by the suicide victim, which mentioned his former girlfriend. Combining the information from the note, input from the suicide victim’s family members, and the facts uncovered by the detectives, it was ultimately confirmed that this was a case of murder-suicide.

The victim of the murder has been identified as Tiffany Miller from the Opelousas area, while the suspect responsible for the homicide and suicide is Joshua Alfred from Lafayette. This heart-wrenching incident has left the community in shock and mourning.
