Serenity Hawley and Croney Monk Obituary: Two young lives were tragically cut short as a murder-suicide rocked the community of Blacksburg, leaving both shock and sorrow in its wake. The victims have been identified as Serenity Hawley and Croney Monk, both students at Blacksburg High School.

Blacksburg police responded to a distressing call on Tuesday afternoon regarding a suspicious vehicle parked in a garage located in the 700 block of University City Boulevard. Upon arriving at the scene, they discovered the lifeless bodies of two minors, Serenity Hawley and Croney Monk.

In an official news release issued on Wednesday morning, the Blacksburg police confirmed the identities of the deceased teenagers. Serenity Hawley, aged 17, hailed from Blacksburg and was the daughter of John Hawley, a 49-year-old resident of Oldsmar, Florida. Serenity, a senior at Blacksburg High School, had been eagerly looking forward to her upcoming eighteenth birthday and her acceptance into Virginia Tech.

According to her grieving father, Serenity was tragically shot while seated in the driver’s seat of her car, succumbing to her injuries. John Hawley also revealed that his daughter’s ex-boyfriend, a high school junior and former varsity football player, had entered the vehicle, shot Serenity, and then turned the gun on himself.

During their investigation, the police discovered a firearm within the vehicle, which had been occupied by the two minors. The Blacksburg department, in collaboration with the Montgomery County Public Schools, is now working diligently to provide necessary support and services to the staff and students affected by this devastating incident.

The next of kin of the victims have been informed by the investigators, ensuring that they receive the necessary support during this incredibly challenging time, the department stated.

While the police have asserted that the incident appears to be isolated, and there is currently no ongoing threat to the community as of Wednesday, they have refrained from categorizing it as a murder-suicide.
