SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – An Illinois state trooper has been discharged from the hospital on Wednesday, marking the end of a challenging recovery process after sustaining critical injuries during an alarming event three weeks ago.
Trooper Dakotah Chapman-Green was shot and viciously beaten while conducting a routine traffic stop by a suspect who is also believed to be involved in a recent murder case.
Chapman-Green, who was admitted to a hospital in Springfield, suffered a severe skull fracture, multiple broken bones, and a brain bleed. Today, his remarkable progress was celebrated as he bravely left the hospital, accompanied by a police motorcade, symbolizing the resilience and dedication of law enforcement officers.
The assault on the trooper took place during a routine traffic stop when the suspect, identified as Cristobal Santana from Chicago, allegedly opened fire on Chapman-Green multiple times. When the firearm malfunctioned, Santana reportedly resorted to physically attacking the trooper with the weapon, inflicting further harm.
Santana was eventually apprehended by law enforcement but remains in hospital care due to injuries sustained during his arrest.
