70-Year-Old Man Virendra Singh Sentenced to Life for Killing Cousin Satyapal Singh, Ex-IAF Officer

Accident – Death – Obituary News : Meerut: A 70-year-old man named Virendra Singh has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the district and sessions court of Bulandshahr. The court found him guilty of killing his cousin, Satyapal Singh, a 68-year-old ex-IAF officer. The murder took place in October 2022 and was a result of a dispute over agricultural land.

The additional district judge, Prashant Mittal, also imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 on Virendra Singh. The incident occurred in Bishaich village of Bulandshahr on October 25, 2022. According to ADGC Bhupendra Singh Rajput, Satyapal Singh was irrigating his field near his house when Virendra and his 27-year-old son, Amit Kumar, approached him. A verbal argument ensued, which quickly escalated into a physical confrontation. Virendra then opened fire at Satyapal, fatally injuring him. Hearing the gunshots, locals gathered at the scene, but the father-son duo managed to escape before they could be apprehended. Virendra was later arrested, and the weapon used in the crime was recovered by the police.

Following the incident, an FIR was lodged against Virendra and Amit under IPC sections 302 (murder) and 506 (criminal intimidation). Virendra was also booked under the Arms Act in a separate FIR at Gulawathi police station. It was revealed during the investigation that Satyapal had served in the Indian Air Force as a junior commissioned officer (JCO). The court deemed the crime to be heinous, and despite no one from the complainant side appearing in court during the trial, Virendra Singh was found guilty.

Virendra Singh was charged under IPC section 302 (murder) and section 25/27 of the Arms Act. During the trial, he claimed in court that he did not intentionally kill Satyapal. However, the court rejected his defense and handed down the life sentence.
