Tragic House Fire Claims Life of 83-Year-Old Bedridden Man in Phichit Province

Accident – Death – Obituary News : A tragic incident occurred in Phichit Province today, as a house fire claimed the life of an 83-year-old bedridden man. The fire broke out in a wooden house located behind Huadong School in Huadong Subdistrict, Phichit. The authorities were alerted to the incident and conducted an initial investigation, which revealed a single fatality. The victim was later identified as 83-year-old Sompong, who was bedridden.

Emergency rescue and forensic teams were called in, and medical personnel from Phichit Hospital were brought in to examine the scene. Sompong’s son, 32-year-old Somporn, revealed that his father usually lived with his wife, 70-year-old Sahrai, who was not present at the time of the incident. Sahrai was at her son’s house due to stomach pain and had a doctor’s appointment scheduled for the following morning.

According to Somporn, on the morning of the incident, his daughter brought snacks to her grandfather and informed him that her grandmother would visit him later. However, shortly after that, the house was engulfed in flames. Somporn and the neighbors were alerted by the sight of smoke and discovered the house on fire, with Sompong’s lifeless body inside. The Huadong Subdistrict Municipality’s emergency services were notified, and an immediate investigation was launched.

It was revealed that Sompong had been bedridden for four months and suffered from several chronic diseases, including asthma, blood pressure issues, lipid disorders, and tuberculosis. Singharat Wongsangiam, the Deputy Governor of Phichit Province, along with Kanthinee Wongsangiam, the Deputy Red Cross Chapter of Phichit Province, and relevant agencies visited the site to inspect and offer their condolences to the bereaved family.

Immediate financial assistance of 8,000 baht, basic necessities, and moral support were provided by the Red Cross Chapter of Phichit Province. The Office of Basic Education Commission also contributed 3,000 baht, and the Office of Social Development and Human Security of Phichit Province offered a social assistance fund of 3,000 baht. Additional assistance of 3,000 baht for the funeral of the elderly man is currently being arranged.

Forensic officers are now working with the Evidence Department to inspect the scene and determine the cause of the fire. The body of the deceased will be taken for autopsy to the forensic medicine department at Buddha Chinnaraj Hospital in Phitsanulok Province before the religious funeral rites are performed.

This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the importance of fire safety precautions, particularly for vulnerable individuals like the elderly and those with limited mobility. The local community has also come together to support the bereaved family during this difficult time, offering their condolences and assistance. The Mayor of Huadong Subdistrict has instructed rescue officials to provide necessary support and arrangements for the funeral of the elderly man.
