The victims have been identified as Mangesh Jadhav, a 46-year-old resident of Dhobi Ghat in Mumbai, Nitin Jadhav, a 48-year-old from Thane, and Dharmanand Gaikwad, a 41-year-old member of the Republican Party of India (RPI) hailing from Raigad. The shocking accident took place while the car was en route to Neral on the Mumbai-Panvel Road.

According to the police, the car suddenly broke through an iron bridge, causing it to plummet onto the moving goods train. As a result of the impact, several wagons of the train, which was traveling from Panvel to Karjat in Raigad district, became detached.

The alertness of Railway Master Kalpesh Deshpande played a crucial role in the immediate response to the incident. Deshpande immediately notified the Karjat Railway Police Force, who promptly arrived at the scene and rushed the five occupants of the ill-fated car to the district hospital.

Tragically, upon their arrival at the hospital, doctors pronounced Mangesh Jadhav, Nitin Jadhav, and Dharmanand Gaikwad as deceased. The two survivors, Santosh Jadhav (32) and Jayawant Hebale (40) from Neral, were immediately transferred to the MGM Private Hospital in Panvel to receive medical treatment for their injuries.

In the wake of the tragedy, the Panvel-Karjat section of the Central Railway was temporarily closed from 4 am to 7:30 am. This closure allowed authorities to efficiently manage the aftermath of the accident. The Hubballi-Dadar Express train was rerouted and diverted via the Karjat-Kalyan route to minimize disruptions in the railway network.

The grieving process for the loss of Dharmanand Gaikwad, an esteemed member of the Republican Party of India (RPI), was attended by Union Minister Ramdas Athavale. The presence of a prominent political figure at the last rites highlights the significance of Gaikwad’s contributions and the impact his untimely demise has had on the party and the community.

As the investigation continues, authorities will be working diligently to determine the cause of the accident and ascertain any possible negligence or factors that may have contributed to this tragic incident.
