Man Injured in Shooting Incident in Badian, Cebu

A 40-year-old man was wounded after being shot by his own cousin during a late-night altercation in Barangay Patong, Badian town, southwest Cebu. The incident occurred around 1 a.m. on Tuesday, November 7, 2023.

The victim, identified as Esmiraldo Inilog, a single habal-habal driver, sustained gunshot wounds in his left hand and leg. The alleged perpetrator, Joseph Inilog Bornea, also single, was apprehended by the police in a follow-up operation at his residence on Wednesday morning at around 11 a.m.

According to Major Philip John Libres, the chief of the Badian Police Station, the authorities recovered a .38 revolver with three live rounds from Bornea’s possession. The weapon is believed to be the one used in the shooting incident.

Investigations revealed that the two men were engaged in a drinking session, which escalated into a fistfight due to their intoxicated state. Following the altercation, Bornea reportedly pursued Inilog as he was leaving for home and fired multiple shots at him.

The motive behind the shooting incident is yet to be determined as the investigation is still ongoing. Both the victim and the suspect are currently in police custody.
