Second Person Charged with Second-Degree Murder in Connection to 2022 Greenacres-Area Stabbing

A second individual is now facing a second-degree murder charge in connection to a fatal stabbing that occurred in a Greenacres-area apartment in 2022. Yoannes Aleman, 46, has been charged with second-degree murder and tampering with evidence in relation to the death of a 47-year-old man on May 26, 2022. The incident is believed to be linked to an unpaid $40 debt.

The identity of the victim has not been disclosed by investigators due to a state constitutional amendment similar to California’s Marsy’s Law. This amendment allows crime victims or their families to withhold their names from public reports.

Aleman, who was already serving time for unrelated robbery charges in the custody of the Florida Department of Corrections, was transferred to the Palm Beach County Jail on Friday.

The arrest of Aleman’s girlfriend, Amy German, 40, was made in September by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office. German is facing charges of second-degree murder, tampering with evidence, and possession of methamphetamine. She has pleaded not guilty to all charges and is currently awaiting trial.

During a recent hearing at the Palm Beach County Courthouse, Circuit Judge Jeffrey Gillen set German’s bond for the murder charge at $100,000 and ordered that she be placed on in-house arrest upon her release.

The incident unfolded when a woman informed investigators that she was with the victim as he drove to the apartment complex on Greengate Circle to meet with German. According to the woman, the victim went into an apartment and returned to the vehicle shortly afterwards, claiming that German and her boyfriend had stabbed him.

The woman attempted to drive the victim to a hospital but called 911 when he started losing consciousness. The victim was later treated for multiple stab wounds at St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries days later.

Deputies were able to locate Aleman weeks after the attack and brought him to PBSO’s Greenacres substation for questioning. However, Aleman declined to speak with investigators, as stated in the arrest report.

On the other hand, German willingly provided a statement to PBSO investigators a few days after the incident. She claimed that she invited the victim to her apartment because he owed her $40 for vehicle maintenance. According to German, she asked the victim to wait at the door upon his arrival, but he forcefully entered the residence and attempted to assault her while brandishing a knife.

German stated that Aleman intervened upon hearing her screams and engaged in a physical altercation with the victim. She asserted that Aleman struck the victim multiple times but denied witnessing him actually stab the man.

Text messages exchanged between German and the victim suggested that he believed she owed him money. These messages also indicated that they were arranging a possible drug transaction, according to the arrest report.

Aleman has refused to appear for court hearings at the Palm Beach County Jail complex on both Saturday and Monday. As a result, County Judge Ted Booras assigned him a public defender and ordered that he be held without bail on the murder charge. The county Public Defender’s Office, as a policy, does not provide comments on open cases.
