Whitewater, UK – The second man believed to be involved in the fatal shooting of a man found dead outside a vehicle in Whitewater last week is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday. Juan Reyes, a 48-year-old resident of Palm Springs, is facing charges alongside Daniel Tomas Pacheco, a 40-year-old from Whitewater. Both men are charged with murder, being convicted felons, and narcotic addicts in possession of a firearm. Pacheco also faces an additional allegation of using a firearm, while Reyes is accused of discharging a firearm causing great bodily injury.

Reyes was set to appear for his arraignment on Tuesday afternoon at the Larson Justice Center in Indio. Pacheco, on the other hand, pleaded not guilty to the charges on Monday afternoon at the same location.

The incident unfolded last Wednesday when deputies responded to a report of a deceased individual in a vehicle parked in the driveway of a residence on Country View Road. Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Deirdre Vickers confirmed the incident and stated that upon their arrival, deputies discovered the lifeless body of a male near the parked vehicle. Sgt. Ben Ramirez added that the scene was secured and an investigation was initiated.

The victim has been identified as 32-year-old Johnny Sanchez from Desert Hot Springs.

Following the discovery, the Central Homicide Unit took over the investigation and determined that Sanchez had been shot on the property. As a result, Pacheco and Reyes were identified as suspects in the case. Pacheco was initially detained at the property and subsequently arrested on Thursday. Reyes, on the other hand, was apprehended around 2 p.m. on the same day in the 35000 block of East Palm Canyon Road in Palm Springs by members of the Coachella Valley Violent Crimes Gang Task Force and the sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit.

Both Reyes and Pacheco were booked into the John J. Benoit Detention Center in Indio following their arrests. Reyes is being held without bail, while Pacheco’s bail has been set at $1 million, according to inmate records.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward and contact Investigator Brown at the Palm Desert sheriff’s station at 760-836-1600 or Investigator Munoz at the Central Homicide Unit at 951-955-2777.
