The Mayor of Cornwall Takes Responsibility for Tragic Death in Homeless Encampment

The mayor of the City of Cornwall, Justin Towndale, issued a heartfelt statement on Monday in response to the untimely death of a woman in a homeless encampment. This unfortunate incident has shed light on the growing issue of homelessness in the city.

A statement released by the City of Cornwall on November 5 confirmed the passing of a woman in the homeless encampment situated in Pointe Maligne Park, along the St. Lawrence River in the city’s downtown area. The statement revealed that emergency services responded to the scene, but unfortunately, the individual had already passed away. The exact time of death remains unknown, and a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of death. The Cornwall Police received a call regarding a sudden death at the Pointe Maligne encampment. Upon arrival, they discovered the lifeless body of a 67-year-old woman. The Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service are now investigating the cause of her death. Preliminary findings indicate that no foul play is suspected.
