Man Sentenced to Decades in Prison for Killing Ex-Wife with Whom He Had “Acrimonious Relationship”

Accident – Death – Obituary News : A 44-year-old man from Baytown, Texas, has been handed a lengthy prison sentence for the 2016 killing of his ex-wife following an acrimonious relationship between the two. Allen Dale Edwards has been sentenced to 46 years in prison by a Harris County jury, according to Harris County district attorney Kim Ogg. The trial lasted for seven days, and Edwards will be eligible for parole after serving at least half of his sentence.

The former couple had not lived together for several years and had frequently disputed custody of their two children, as stated in a statement from the district attorney’s office. On the fateful day of March 19, 2016, Keyanna Cherrell Gardiner and a female friend were driving in a white SUV at around 3 a.m. when they stopped at Edwards’ residence. Gardiner was asleep at the time when her friend allegedly threw an aerosol can to break Edwards’ window.

Assistant District Attorney Ashlea Sheridan, who prosecuted Edwards, revealed that he took matters into his own hands instead of contacting the police. Edwards admitted to chasing down Gardiner and her friend, stating that he should have allowed law enforcement to handle the situation. Despite urging his mother to call the police, Edwards decided to pursue the duo with his gun. During the chase on Highway 146, Edwards fired shots at the driver’s side of the SUV and then suddenly stopped in front of the women, causing a collision.

Tragically, Gardiner was struck by one of Edwards’ bullets and died at the scene. The female driver was also assaulted by Edwards, resulting in her hospitalization and the need for surgery to address her injuries. Edwards was apprehended shortly after the shooting.

District Attorney Kim Ogg highlighted the concerning escalation of domestic violence into murder, stating that there was no justification for Edwards’ actions. She emphasized that the victim was a mother and someone’s ex-wife, and her life should not have been cut short due to domestic violence.

According to a report by Fox News, Edwards filed for an appeal of his conviction on November 3, claiming that the female driver, identified as Samone Massey, was his ex-wife’s partner. The report suggests that Massey attributed her actions to years of harassment from Edwards, including constant phone calls even while she was at work. Massey expressed her belief that Edwards should be incarcerated for a longer period, emphasizing that Gardiner cannot be brought back and that the media and others are unaware of the difficulties they faced due to Edwards’ behavior.

Speaking to Fox News, Massey described Gardiner as a wonderful, smart, caring, and loving person who simply wanted to live a normal life away from the situation they were in.

The incident also involved two unrelated men, 50-year-old Marco Peralta and Anthony Anatra. Peralta collided with the victim’s car during the incident, but while directing traffic, he was struck by Anatra, who failed to see him. Peralta died instantly, and Anatra was charged with driving while intoxicated. Neither of them had any connection to Edwards, Gardiner, or Massey.
