Accident – Death – Obituary News : TOPEKA (KSNT) – The Shawnee County District Attorney’s Office has announced the sentencing of Emmanuel R. Walker, the man convicted of the 2022 murder of Kirk Sexton in Topeka. Following a guilty plea for criminal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and a conviction of intentional murder in the second degree by a Shawnee County jury in July 2023, Walker has been handed a sentence of over 52 years in prison, according to the Shawnee County DA’s Office.

The incident took place on the evening of Saturday, July 16, 2022, when law enforcement responded to a call regarding a person with a gunshot wound in the 900 block of SW Eighth Street. Sadly, the victim, later identified as Kirk Sexton, was pronounced dead at the scene by the police.

Topeka police conducted an investigation and identified Emmanuel R. Walker as the suspect a few days after the incident. Walker was eventually located by law enforcement in Erie, Pennsylvania, and brought back to Topeka to face charges of first-degree murder.
