Authorities have identified the shooter as 30-year-old Lona-Akoni Hudson, who was found guilty of the shooting death of 38-year-old Jacob Dreyer from Vancouver.

The incident occurred on February 26, 2022, just before 7:15 p.m., when officers from the Portland Police Bureau responded to reports of a shooting in a Northeast 2nd Avenue parking garage.

Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered Jacob Dreyer deceased in the driver’s seat of a vehicle, having suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head. During the course of the investigation, it was revealed that Hudson and Dreyer had met for a drug transaction.

A witness, who was present in the backseat of Dreyer’s car, testified that Hudson shot Dreyer, proceeded to search his pockets, and then fled the scene, according to the district attorney’s office.

Hudson was apprehended on March 7, 2022, following a search warrant executed by a joint effort involving the Portland Police, U.S. Marshals, Vancouver Police, and the Southwest Regional SWAT team.

Eight days later, a grand jury in Multnomah County indicted Hudson on charges of first-degree murder with a firearm, first-degree robbery, and unlawful use of a weapon with a firearm.

In a subsequent plea agreement reached on November 1, 2022, Hudson pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree manslaughter with a firearm and one count of first-degree robbery as part of a broader resolution encompassing two other ongoing investigations.

Following his sentencing on Monday, Hudson was transferred to the Oregon Department of Corrections to serve his 25-year prison term.
