Accident – death – Obituary News : Investigation Launched into death of University of Port Harcourt Student in Rivers State
The Rivers State Police Command has announced that it is probing the death of a female student of the University of Port Harcourt, whose body was discovered in her apartment in Aluu, Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state. The student, identified as Adaeze, was a 200-level undergraduate studying Accounting at the university.

The cause of Adaeze’s death could not be immediately ascertained. Her lifeless body was found in her off-campus residence in Aluu, a community near the university. This incident comes just two weeks after the decomposing body of another student, Justina Otuene, a 300-level undergraduate student of Biochemistry, was found in her ex-lover’s residence. Damian Okoligwe, a 400-level student of Petrochemical Engineering at UNIPORT, was arrested in connection with Otuene’s death.
The Dean of Student Affairs at UNIPORT, Prof. Chima Wokocha, confirmed the latest incident and stated that Adaeze’s body was brought to a health facility within the school by some of her neighbors. He clarified that she did not die in the university hostel but in her off-campus residence in Aluu. The university management, including Prof. Wokocha, visited the scene of the crime, and the police were also present. The parents of the deceased student have been notified of the tragic incident.
Prof. Wokocha mentioned that a substance was found near Adaeze’s body, indicating that she may have taken it before passing away. He added that the parents are making arrangements to claim the body. The spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding Adaeze’s death. According to the Divisional Police Officer, a landlord reported seeing his tenant on the ground, with foam coming out of her nose and mouth. A bottle of sniper, a potentially dangerous substance, was also found nearby. Adaeze was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The police are currently working to unravel the circumstances leading to Adaeze’s death. The university community and the entire state of Rivers mourn the loss of another young life and hope that the investigation will bring justice and closure to the grieving family.
