According to the sheriff’s office, Mondal stated that he was driving their SUV towards the Indiana/Ohio state line but eventually turned back towards Indiana on U.S. 50. Upon arrival at the hospital, medical staff immediately attended to Mondal’s wife, identified as Stacy Mondal, a 40-year-old resident of Lawrenceburg. Tragically, despite their best efforts, the hospital staff was unable to save her life, and she was pronounced dead. This devastating loss has left the community in shock.

Sheriff Shane J. McHenry stated that detectives from both Dearborn County, Indiana, and Hamilton County, Ohio, worked together to investigate the incident. Following the investigation, Mondal was taken into custody and booked into the Dearborn County jail on Monday night. Sheriff McHenry confirmed that an intent to file a murder charge against Mondal was underway.

Due to the closure of the courts on Tuesday owing to elections, the formal murder charge will be filed as soon as the courts reopen on Wednesday, the sheriff explained. “Formally charged means charges are signed by a judge, which will happen tomorrow,” he added.
