Importance of Investigating Hit-and-Run Incidents

Incidents involving impaired drivers pose a significant risk to everyone on the road and can cause immeasurable damage. According to Candice Bond, a Managing Partner at Bond Legal, individuals driving under the influence can face both criminal charges and civil lawsuits if their actions result in harm or death.

Bond highlighted that pedestrians generally have the right of way when crossing intersections or streets, even if they are in marked crosswalks. It is the responsibility of drivers to yield to pedestrians to avoid such devastating accidents.

Based on statistics from the National Safety Council, approximately 10% of all fatal automobile accidents in the United States are caused by drivers operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or other medications. These accidents are the second-leading cause of automobile fatalities in the country.

In cases where negligence of another motorist or entity leads to the death of an individual, surviving family members may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. The family of Hassan Qureshi may be entitled to compensation pending the results of the investigation.

Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal and a national analyst with The Legal Advocate, emphasized that victims of DUI accidents can seek additional compensation beyond criminal charges. This compensation can cover medical bills, future medical costs, wage loss, and emotional trauma. In some cases, victims can also pursue punitive damages through a civil lawsuit.
