Accident – death – Obituary News : After the shocking discovery of three bodies on the streets of Grand Rapids, Michigan, police are now revealing more information about the ongoing investigation. The Grand Rapids Police Chief, Eric Winstrom, provided additional details about the case in an interview with 13 ON YOUR SIDE on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident occurred in the Burton Heights neighborhood on Monday, prompting multiple 911 calls reporting two separate instances of individuals found bloodied in the street just before noon. The victims, a man and a woman, were discovered within blocks of each other. One victim was found at the intersection of Melville Street SE and Horton Avenue SE, while the other was located near Melville Street Southeast and Francis Avenue Southeast. Tragically, both victims had been shot and were pronounced dead at the scene. The authorities have ruled both deaths as homicides.

The woman has been identified as 20-year-old Anayia Rodriguez, described by her family as a sweet, funny, and loving individual who was always positive and wore a constant smile. Rodriguez graduated from East Kentwood High School and was an active leader in the cheerleading squad and her community.

The male victim has been identified as 19-year-old Malik Eubanks, who was Rodriguez’s boyfriend according to her family. Police revealed that Eubanks’ two-year-old child was found wandering the streets alone, about a mile away from the crime scene. Thankfully, the child was unharmed, but blood was discovered on them. The child is now in the care of their mother.

Adding to the tragedy, another man was shot and killed in the 2000 block of Horton Avenue Southeast, just hours after Rodriguez and Eubanks were found dead. Although the police cannot definitively state if this shooting death is connected to the previous two, all three incidents occurred within the same neighborhood. The third victim has been identified as 32-year-old Darryl Yarber, and like the other two, his death has also been ruled a homicide.

“This neighborhood and our city experienced an incredibly tragic day yesterday as we lost the lives of three young people,” said Chief Eric Winstrom. He reassured the public that despite the fear that has arisen following these shocking murders, the police believe these incidents were highly targeted and do not pose a threat to the broader community. Chief Winstrom urged anyone with information to come forward and help bring justice to the victims and their loved ones.

In an effort to gather more evidence, a black Jeep was found approximately three miles from the crime scene on Monday evening. The police have classified it as a “vehicle of interest” and have collected evidence from the car before towing it away.

Following this gruesome series of events, residents in the area are understandably concerned for their safety and are seeking reassurance. The neighborhood had previously been equipped with trailer cameras, but they were removed earlier this year. In light of recent events, residents hope that the cameras will be reinstalled to restore a sense of security.

Neighboring residents, who wished to remain anonymous, spoke out about their fears. One resident, who has lived in her house for 27 years without any prior incidents, expressed her shock and desire to leave the neighborhood. Another resident recounted hearing six gunshots and immediately calling 911. Both individuals long for a return to peace and security.

Chief Eric Winstrom acknowledged the residents’ concerns and mentioned that the possibility of installing cameras in the area is being considered. Tuesday morning, the cameras were indeed back in operation, serving as a potential deterrent and a means of capturing crucial evidence.

As the investigation continues, the Grand Rapids Police Department is urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in bringing justice to the victims and their grieving families.
