The accused, identified as 52-year-old Vikas Ramchandra Gaikwad, allegedly attacked Bhadrike near the Khadki Bazar area, resulting in his untimely demise.

According to the police, Gaikwad, who worked as a scrap collector in the locality, engaged in a verbal altercation with Bhadrike at approximately 10:30 pm. The dispute quickly escalated, and Gaikwad resorted to using a sharp knife to fatally stab Bhadrike. The motive behind the argument remains unclear at this stage of the investigation.

Upon receiving information about the incident, the police rushed to the scene and discovered Bhadrike in a severely injured state. Urgently, they transported him to a nearby hospital, where medical professionals pronounced him dead on arrival. Subsequent examination during the post-mortem revealed that Bhadrike had succumbed to the stab wounds inflicted upon him.

Mansingh Patil, the police inspector (Crime) at Khadki police station, highlighted the challenges faced during the investigation. “Regrettably, there was no CCTV coverage in the vicinity. However, we were fortunate enough to locate an eyewitness who had overheard the dispute. Relying on his valuable information, we initiated a search operation and successfully apprehended the accused,” he stated.

Further aiding the investigation, the accused provided the police with crucial information regarding the whereabouts of the murder weapon. Following his guidance, law enforcement officers were able to recover the knife, which had been discarded in the nearby area by Gaikwad.

A case has been registered at the Khadki police station under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and a comprehensive investigation is currently underway to gather additional evidence and establish a clear motive behind the appalling crime.
